Installation of PostgreSQL

In order to install the PostgreSQL you'll have to download a copy of PostgreSQL installer (http://www.postgresql.org/download/ )  for your operating system.

Installing PostgreSQL

PostgreSQL installation is quick and similar to installing any wizard based software installer.
Steps are as following:
1. Double click the postgresql-X.X.X installer.

2. PostgreSQL installation wizard will start, which will prompt for some installation and information screens.  Continue installaiton by clicking "Next" button.

3. Installer will create a database user for you named "postgre" and will prompt you to provide password for your PostgreSQL installation. Provide a password of your choice and press "Next".

Make sure checkbox is unchecked otherwise it unnecessarily redirect to download UI.

Now you are all set to try using your PostgreSQL database installation.

If you are looking for more information on installation guide. Visit PostgreSQL at http://www.enterprisedb.com/learning/pginst_guide.do.

This will start the PostgreSQL server in a seprate consol window.

Similraly if you like to stop database server, follow step 2 described above but this time click on "Stop Server" menu item to stop running the server.

In order administrate you database installation you will need to run PostgreSQL administration tool.
The pgAdmin allows you to graphically manage and update your database installation by following the steps as follows:
1. Click the pgAdmin item in PostgreSQL menu entry in startup bar of your Windows installation as described in step 1 of "Running PostgreSQL" section.

2. A pgAdmin window will open.

3. You will see a tree in the "Object Browser" window on the left half of pgAdmin window labelled "Server1".    A node named PostgreSQL9.3 will appear below the Server1.

4. Double click the PostgreSQL9.3 node and you will see a password prompt. Provide the database password you set in step 3 of "Installing PostgreSQL" section.  (In my case password is root)
